Name of project: Case studies and laboratory experiments for a postgraduate course in information technology security

Funding: Sfr 100,000.-

Summary: IT security and privacy of information are areas of growing importance. Quality assurance, data protection and the handling of large volumes of valuable information call for corresponding abilities in all those involved in IT projects. The Central Switzerland College of Engineering in Lucerne is designing a postgraduate course on the HTL (polytechnic) level for 1997. The actual preparatory work for the course is done in the course of normal teaching activities. Projects and experience from industry feature prominently in devising case studies and lab experiments. The present project is intended to partly finance this work.

The aim of the project is to put into practice actual examples (illustrative cases, studies, hardware and software configurations) in order to render the curriculum as instructive and realistic as possible.

Cooperation: The lead applicant is a lecturer at the Central Switzerland College of Engineering in Lucerne (ZTL). This polytechnic project is being carried out in association with a whole range of companies including the Union Bank of Switzerland (SBG), the Migros retailing chain, Ciba and Telekurs.
