Project leader:
Dr. Osman Ratib, Hôpital Cantonal Universitaire, Geneva
e-mail: Ratib@dim.hcuge.ch
Name of project: Advanced Medical Image Storage Server (MISS), based on parallel storage server and CD-ROM technology
Partners:
Ronald Welz, WDS Technologies SA, Geneva
Alain Farine, AF-CSE Computer Science Engineering, Lausanne
Walter Loeffel, Cromenco AG, Baar
Funding: Sfr 235,731.-
Summary:
For medical and cost reasons, there is currently a clear trend
towards noninvasive techniques in medicine. This development
requires advances in medical image processing. Problems arise
above all in setting up image servers to satisfy a whole bundle
of requirements: speed, maximum storage access possibilities,
DICOM standard conformity, user friendliness, security and
openness toward local or public networks. Additionally, the
present high costs of image archiving and communication systems
are prohibitive for smaller hospitals and clinics. The goal of
the MISS project is to integrate the DICOM standard on a low-cost
Windows NT server and implement the parallel server technology
developed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at
Lausanne.
Cooperation:
The lead applicant works at the hospital information technology
center of the Geneva cantonal university hospital in Geneva.
Industrial partners associated with the project are the companies
WDS Technologies, AF-CDE and Cromenco International AG.
