Summary:
The rapid implementation of new IT-based business strategies is
increasingly crucial to making companies competitive. The aim of
the present research project is to develop a practical procedure
for putting business processes into effect in a heterogeneous
information system. This procedure is based on the one hand on
workflow systems and on the other on integrating package
software, new developments and legacy applications and data sets.
Intermediate goals are to establish criteria for the use of
workflow systems and of various process-conversion strategies.
This will be followed by the development of interface and
redundancy management concepts. Finally, this work will lay the
foundations for a process integration procedure methodology.
Results will be validated for practicability in association with
the research partner IMG (Information Management Gesellschaft) by
regular contacts with companies and by operating pilot projects.
Cooperation:
The lead applicant works in the institute of business information
technology of the University of St. Gallen. The first industrial
partner is Information Management Gesellschaft, St. Gallen.
